Privacy
This site is used by 16 to 18-year-olds, so it is built to collect as little as possible: no accounts, no email capture, and no stored calculator or quiz answers.
The calculator is session-only
The take-home calculator, and any future quiz, runs entirely in your browser. Calculator inputs and study-budget values are not written to a database, key-value store, log, or analytics tool. Closing the tab discards everything you typed.
Comparison links and study planning
The comparison tool includes selected subject slugs in the page address so you can share it. It does not put names or financial details in the URL. The study budget and checklist run locally in the current tab; we do not save these inputs or use tracking cookies. Printing uses your browser’s print function.
Optional device-only shortlist
Your programme shortlist, notes and personal target dates stay in the current tab unless you select “Enable saving on this device”. That action stores them in this browser’s local storage under coursetojob.shortlist.v1. We do not send these notes or dates to our server, analytics or an account. They remain until you delete the saved copy, clear browser site data or your browser removes them. They do not sync across devices.
Use “Delete saved copy and stop saving” on the shortlist page to remove the stored copy. Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to see it, so avoid private notes on shared devices. Exported and printed files include your notes and dates; you control where those copies are kept. Programme comparison links include programme identifiers only. Personal target dates do not trigger notifications.
CVs, letters and application notes
Career tools use session storage to keep drafts within this tab. Closing the tab ends that temporary session. Selecting “Enable saving on this device” stores documents in browser local storage under coursetojob.careers.v1 until you delete them or clear site data. Drafts do not sync to an account or another device. Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to read a saved copy.
The document workspace can export and import JSON backups and delete career data. Backups include CV contact details, letters and application notes. Store them privately. Imported account labels and paid-plan flags are discarded. Formatting checks, keyword matching, document exports and phrase suggestions run locally. AI rewriting is not enabled in this release, and CV text is not sent to an AI service. If browser storage is blocked or full, export before leaving the page.
Hosting requests and shared links
Our hosting provider processes network requests to serve and secure the site. These may include IP addresses and requested URLs. Do not enter personal information into search fields or shared links. Calculator and study-budget values are not sent to our server.
Site-wide search
Site search filters a public page directory in your browser. Search words and the selected category are included in the shareable page URL and can appear in browser history or hosting logs when that URL is opened. Search does not inspect your CV drafts, letters, shortlist or application notes. Use topic words rather than personal information.
What we do not collect
- No user accounts or server-stored shortlists.
- No stored calculator or quiz answers.
- No analytics trackers on anything you type.
- No mailing list and no email capture.
What the site does handle
Subject pages are prerendered from JSON files we maintain, so a normal page view does not require an account. Hosting still processes network requests as described above. The on-demand vacancies route, when configured, sends your role keywords, selected location and search filters to Adzuna. Search URLs can include those values and may appear in browser history and hosting logs. Do not enter personal or confidential information into vacancy searches. External job-search links send the role and location to the provider when opened. Your CV drafts and cover letters are not included.
