Accountant CV example

What to include in a accountant cv: relevant evidence, skills, sample achievement structures and template suggestions.

A useful starting point

Lead with qualification status, systems, and a close you own. Two pages. Skip “hard-working”. Skip this if you are bookkeeping-only — use the bookkeeper example rather than implying you sign off accounts.

These examples illustrate structure, not a real applicant’s history. Replace every sample detail with your own evidence. Follow the employer’s instructions on qualifications, registration, document length and file format.

Evidence to consider

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA status
  • Close timetable
  • Software
  • Audit or management-account proof

Illustrative achievement bullets

  • Owned a 7-day month-end for a £40m-turnover group
  • Cleared 120 balance-sheet reconciliations with no late schedules in FY25
  • Implemented Xero-to-group packs that cut manual journals 30%
  • Liaised with external audit; zero adjusted misstatements in the last cycle

Relevant skills to substantiate

Month-end · IFRS/UK GAAP as applicable · Xero · Excel · Reconciliations · Audit liaison

What to leave out

  • Photos
  • Every Excel shortcut
  • Client names if forbidden

Choose a layout

Explore the professional template or use it in the CV builder. This is a suggested layout; follow the vacancy’s requirements.

How do I show part-qualified status?

Should I include a photo?

No for UK practice and industry accounting roles.

Two once you have several year-ends. Trainees can use one or two as the advert says.
