Bookkeeper CV example

What to include in a bookkeeper cv: relevant evidence, skills, sample achievement structures and template suggestions.

A useful starting point

Show the books you kept: volume, software, and a control you ran. One or two pages. Skip calling yourself an accountant if you are not. Skip this if you are qualified ACA/ACCA applying for accountant seats.

These examples illustrate structure, not a real applicant’s history. Replace every sample detail with your own evidence. Follow the employer’s instructions on qualifications, registration, document length and file format.

Evidence to consider

  • Software (Xero, QBO, Sage)
  • Transaction volume
  • VAT or payroll if you did it
  • Reconciliation cadence

Illustrative achievement bullets

  • Posted 400+ invoices a month in Xero for a 3-entity group
  • Completed VAT returns on time for 14 consecutive quarters
  • Reconciled 8 bank accounts weekly with a documented exception log
  • Prepared payroll inputs for 22 staff using a bureau

Relevant skills to substantiate

Xero · VAT · Bank recs · Purchase ledger · Excel · Payroll inputs

What to leave out

  • Photos
  • Inflated job titles
  • Confidential client lists on a public PDF

Choose a layout

Explore the classic template or use it in the CV builder. This is a suggested layout; follow the vacancy’s requirements.

Frequently asked questions

AAT?

List the level and whether you are qualified. It is expected in this market.

One page?

Often yes. Two if you have a long client list of bookkeeping contracts.

Should I say accountant?

No if you are not. Bookkeeper is a real job. Inflating it fails reference checks.
