School Leaver CV example

What to include in a school leaver cv: relevant evidence, skills, sample achievement structures and template suggestions.

A useful starting point

One page: GCSEs or equivalent, any vocational course, part-time work, and a short profile that names the apprenticeship or job. Skip university language. Skip this page if you already have a degree.

These examples illustrate structure, not a real applicant’s history. Replace every sample detail with your own evidence. Follow the employer’s instructions on qualifications, registration, document length and file format.

Evidence to consider

  • School and exam sitting year
  • English and Maths grades
  • Part-time work or caring
  • A named vacancy type

Illustrative achievement bullets

  • GCSE Maths 6, English 5; BTEC Level 2 Distinction in IT
  • Weekend retail: cashed up a till and restocked a 3-aisle section
  • Volunteered 20 hours at a local club, registering 15 new members
  • Completed a one-week employer taster in a warehouse

Relevant skills to substantiate

Numeracy · Customer service · Reliability · IT basics · Teamwork · Cash handling

What to leave out

  • Photos
  • Long hobby lists
  • References occupying a third of the page

Choose a layout

Explore the compact template or use it in the CV builder. This is a suggested layout; follow the vacancy’s requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Do I list every GCSE?

List English, Maths and two or three relevant others, plus a count of the rest. Not nine lines of grades.

Is a personal statement required?

Four lines naming the job is enough. Do not write a UCAS essay on the CV.

Should I include a photo?

No for almost every UK school-leaver vacancy.
